I haven't been feeling well the past 2 weeks and my training has slowed down. I have a big 5k coming up this weekend that everyone says its a PR course. I was hoping for a sub 18:30 but I don't know how I will feel with little running the past few weeks.

Updates updates updates...

Months go by and everyday I mean to update my blog but don't have the motivation to do it. Today is a little push to do better.

Races have come and go and PR's have been written down but I'm still not the best runner I can be.

I started the year with the month of January just doing core training. I always read how good it is for you but never tried it out until this year. And boy did it make a difference. When running season started in February I felt my running form had changed for the best. I could feel that I was running straight and could push harder then before. I got very close to beating my 5k PR of 18:43 by doing a race in 18:43 and two weeks late another in 18:45. I feel once the temperatures start to go down I will be able to do a sub 18:30.

Once again I did the North Face Endurance Challenge 50k and it was great. The temperature, compare to last years 93 degrees in the shade, was a dream come true. It was such a nice day and I was feeling so prepared that I beat last years time by over 1 hour and 15 minutes. I love ultra running but feel like I should focus on shorter races for the next few years.

Thats all for now, have a lot more to write but I want to save it for another day. Hopefully not in 6 months.

First race of the year down

Today I did my first race of 2014 and also my first 4 miler.

Weather was great, a little cold and especially because I forgot my gloves, but it was bearable.

I've never done a 4 mile race before because it's a very weird distance that doesn't get offer too often. I average a 6:20 pace and ended in 25:29. Got an awesome coffee mug for getting second place in my age group and also finished 14th overall. I wish I had my GPS watch to see my actual time for each mile.

I haven't ran that much this year but core/strength training has helped me a lot and I felt like my upper body form was great today.

This race is also part of the Fredericksburg Gran Prix Series and I was award 974 points out of 1,000.

New Year, New Goals

2013 gave me the opportunity to win multiple 5K's, finish my first ultra marathon, and even beat my marathon record by over 39 minutes. But the best thing 2013 gave me in my running life was doing a marathon with my brother. He is not a running enthusiast like me but he has been enjoying a lot more. When I finish my first marathon I didn't want to think about running ever again. My brother finished his first marathon and he wanted to know which one we are doing next, so I'm pretty sure the running bug has hit him.

My goals for 2014 is to do a sub 18:30 5k, sub 40 10k, sub 1:30 half marathon, and a sub 3:30 marathon. I want to do another 50k but i don't think it will fit into my schedule. This year I would like to pick up my speed instead of my ability to run long distances.
